Get Your Creative Juices Flowing with an Art Design College Program

Drawing, painting, sculpting and other forms of art take a lot more to master than just talent and vision. The people behind great works of art also know theory, history and techniques to make that oil painting of a flower pop or to ensure that woman’s face looks life-like in the sculpture. So where do these great artists learn their craft? Many attend an art design college program such as Centennial College’s Art and Design Foundation Studies.

If you’re interested in obtaining a design foundation, expanding your creative and practical skills by finding a balance between traditional and digital art courses, this program may be for you. Students applying for admission to the two-semester Art and Design Foundation Studies must present at minimum an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent or be 19 years of age or older. The other academic requirement is compulsory English 12C or U, or skills assessment or equivalent. However, possession of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission.

Once you’re in the design foundations program, you will meet a team of faculty members who are so experienced that you’ll start learning from them right away. These professors and instructors offer anecdotes from their own careers and have a deep understanding of the arts. With their insider industry knowledge, they also know many of the people whom hire Centennial College students. Therefore, they are able to obtain much-needed information for art design college students so they may prepare accordingly for the field. In fact, the Art and Design Foundation program has been training grads since 1974.

So what exactly is that knowledge Carol speaks of? The design foundation topics at Centennial College include digital imaging, animation and digital design classes that open doors to programs such as Digital Animation, Interactive Digital Media, and Game Design. In addition, you also study a variety of traditional approaches in drawing that can lead to your acceptance in the Fine Arts Studio program. Specific courses range from Portfolio Development and Professional Practice to Colour Studio, 3D Art and Design Studio and Visual Design Fundamentals.
