Become a Negotiation Expert in Advertising Media Management

Even though the general public may not be aware of it, the placement of advertisements is very strategic. In fact, there are professionals who know exactly where the heart-warming iPhone commercial should run or when to make us laugh with those silly Royale toilet tissue commercials. These Advertising Media Management professionals are responsible for media research analysis as well as the planning and buying of media.

The field of advertising management includes the work that is done by advertising agencies, independent media management companies, marketing companies, multi-media owners and sellers, research companies and advertisers. The entry-level position at many advertising agencies is called media buying, which is the obtaining of the best possible placement and price of a piece of media real-estate within any given media. These professionals must be skilled in negotiation as media buying involves debating price and placement to ensure the best possible value is secured. It is a challenging area of advertising management but a great way to get your foot in the door of a competitive business. Once you gain experience, there is plenty of room to move up.

However, experience first starts with programs such as Centennial College’s Media Management course. The three-semester undertaking is geared at graduates who are looking to either upgrade their skills or want a career change. Its hands-on and intensive curriculum is industry approved and focuses on consumer-driven communication channel choices for advertising messages as well as the fundamentals of media management. Specific courses within the program include: Integrated Marketing Foundations, Media Research Data and Analyses, Introduction to Media Planning, Media Account Administration, Media Industry Issues and many more. As you can see, the advertising management program is well rounded. In addition, many of these courses actually allow for hands-on training that prepares students for their field placement. This placement allows you to experience the advertising management world by working with industry professionals, applying the skills you learned at Centennial and networking. Please be advised that students are responsible for obtaining their own field placement. Upon graduation, you will have the ability to: reach target audiences with a creative message, express business and negotiating skills on behalf of advertising clients, expertly perform research, analysis, planning, estimating and buying; and use professional software.

If you are interested in this Centennial College program, you must submit an official transcript demonstrating proof of successful completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree program and attend an admission session during which you will complete a basic math test and a questionnaire. Applicants presenting a combination of partial post secondary education and relevant work experience will also be considered.
