Police foundations is a two-year program that runs through four semesters. It includes the study of:

  • Community and Experiential Policing
  • Interviewing and Investigations
  • Principles of Psychology
  • Professional Ethics
  • Police Preparation

You gain the knowledge of current law enforcement methods, criminal proceedings, conflict resolution techniques and professional police standards to do your job effectively. You also gain the experience necessary to make appropriate decisions, depending upon the situation.

In addition, you also receive fitness training, intense discipline and deportment training equivalent to that of paramilitary environment and training on use of force. The program also incorporates real life experiences and case studies that incorporate fundamental perspective on life.

As a graduate of this program, you will demonstrate the ability to cope with stress, quickly evaluate the situation and make sound decision, document, prepare and assist in the presentation of court cases, use basic investigative techniques, assess crisis intervention strategies and assist victims in the best possible manner.

Admission Requirements

For being eligible to apply to this program, you will need:

  • A copy of secondary school diploma certificate or equivalent
  • Scores of English Grade 12 C or University or equivalent

Students currently in high school can also apply for this program. Their midterm and final term scores will be directly transmitted to the college. After admission, students will be required to undergo a criminal reference check.

Choosing the Right College

The duration of a post-secondary police foundations program may range between nine months to two years. Centennial College’s is a comprehensive and intensive program; and thus, runs for two years.
