Hotel and Resort Management Program Covers Wide Range of Career Areas

If you are interested in pursuing a diploma rather than a
hotel management degree, Centennial College has the program for you. Hospitality Management – Hotel and Resort is a practical program that admits students at three points during the year (September, January and May), allowing them to complete the two-year undertaking in as little as 16 months.

Topics: The offering covers the entire range of areas in a hotel or resort that require managers. Among specific courses are: Front Office Operations (examines the various elements of effective front office management, paying close attention to planning, forecasting and evaluating front office procedures); Hospitality and Tourism Marketing (students define marketing, distinguish between product and services marketing and demonstrate an understanding of consumer behaviour, market segmentation, the marketing mix and their application to the marketing plan); Housekeeping and Facilities Management (students learn why being able to understand and monitor heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems to offer guest comfort and reduce costs is important; the importance of cleanliness and systems for operating; as well as department organization, job descriptions, inventories, and budgets for these related departments); and more.

Approach:
Based at Centennial College’s largest location, Progress Campus, are facilities that help students of the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culture enhance their learning. As such, this program includes the use of the college’s residences, where students act out their roles. Additionally, students partake in a field placement that serves to offer them a real-world experience prior to graduation. As a result, students come to better understand the ins and outs of the industry, increase their knowledge of common practices and gain a competitive edge of experience in the workplace.

Credentials:
While students graduate with an Ontario College Diploma, they may pursue further education through partnerships Centennial College has with a range of institutions. These partnerships allow students to apply academic credit towards further study and include: Athabasca University, International Hotel Management Institute (Switzerland), Vancouver Island University, University of New Brunswick and Royal Roads University (B.C.).

The hotel management education that students complete in this offering offers them the know-how to launch careers in all areas of full service lodging operations including.
