If you are looking forward to obtain a bachelor of applied information sciences, consider Centennial College’s Software System Designs program. This four-year program combines the perks of attending college (small class sizes, cheaper tuition fees, one-on-one time with instructors, practical learning) along with a respected degree.
Applicants to Software Systems development course must possess a minimum of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a minimum of six 12U, 12M, OAC credits or equivalent or be 19 years of age or older. Other requirements include English 12U and one of the following: Math 12U Advanced Functions, Math 12U Calculus and Vectors, Math 12U Mathematics of Data Management or equivalent. Possession of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to program.
The Software System Design program is facilitated from Centennial College’s largest location, Progress Campus, which is fully equipped with the latest technology to enhance student learning. As such, students spend much of their program time obtaining hands-on experience in laboratories while studying a unique blend of technology and business subjects that include: fundamentals of business management, software development programming fundamentals, website design and development, science and technology in society, object oriented programming, system analysis and design, data communications and networks, software design patterns, software quality assurance, business consulting, and more. During their training the students also use state-of-the-art laboratories that include equipment such as: VoIP, WiFi, Cellular Networks, Advanced Routing and Switching and Network Management and Wireless Broadband (WiMax).
To round out training, the Software Systems development program includes a 15-week co-op placement, for which students are compensated. This placement sees students working in companies that require Software Design System professionals, so that they can apply theory and practice to real-life situations. In order to be eligible for co-op, students are required to obtain a minimum C grade in ENG-110, minimum 2.0 GPA, and minimum 80 per cent of year 1 and 2 courses. The final practical component is three Software Development Project courses, which enable students to further enhance the design and project planning skills acquired in the earlier courses.
It is worth noting that the Software System Designs degree undertaking is a fully CIPS ISTAC-accredited program. The Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) and the Canadian Council of Technician and Technologies (CCTT) jointly approved accreditation of this program in 2011. This joint accreditation is the first of its kind in Canada. Graduates from the program may apply for certified membership to either CIPS or their provincial engineering technology association.
Upon graduation the students become professionals in the computer world. They are prepared to work as software developers, software engineers, systems analysts, business analysts, web application developers, IT project managers, and computer programmers/analysts.
