Business Fundamentals Provide Base for Further Success

Are you looking for a program that will offer you a business foundation while preparing you for the field or for further education? If so, you may want to consider applying to Centennial College’s Business offering, which teaches students business fundamentals and international business concepts in just two years. Upon graduating from this offering, students may pursue further business education by participating in articulated programs with selected universities, institutes and professional associations. These partnerships allow students to apply credits earned at Centennial College towards further study at other institutions, including Royal Roads University, Griffith University, Davenport University, and University of New Brunswick. Alternatively, students may enter the business field and obtain jobs in entry level positions as: customer service representatives, procurement assistants, human resources generalists, marketing assistants, service supervisors, junior business analysts, operations coordinators and insurance claims representatives.

But just how does Centennial College get students from novices who require business fundamentals to experts who can obtain careers in eight different positions? First and foremost, students participate in teamwork, undertake case analyses and pursue directed research on an individual basis. This allows them to master skills by using a hands-on approach.

The teaching method works well as students are encouraged to develop skills in of math, computing, analytical and communication. Further focus is on a solid grounding in the contemporary concepts, theories and business practices, related to all the functional areas of the business enterprise.

A team of professors with strong academic backgrounds and extensive business and management experience guide students through their two years in Business program. Specific courses within the Business offering include: Fundamentals of Business (provides a basis for the study of business, describing the global factors that impact the Canadian firm, and how business activities link to resources around the world); Business Operations (intended to provide a background to the development of the operations management activity in Canadian business); International Business Concepts (provides an introduction to the fundamental aspects of conducting business activities in a global context. It gives students a broad overview of international trade, the macro-environment within which international business takes place, and the major strategic decisions facing international business managers); and more.

In order to apply to Centennial College’s Business undertaking, applicants are required to have completed at minimum an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or be mature student status (19 years or older). In addition, they should have completed English Grade 12 C or U or equivalent, or skills assessment and Math Grade 11 C, M or U, or Grade 12 C or U or equivalent or skills assessment. Students of the Business fundamentals program must have a minimum C grade average and an overall GPA of 2.0 to graduate.
