Program Overview

Centennial College’s three-year Journalism Program is designed for high school graduates. It will prepare you for a new career by taking you from the classroom to a newsroom, to a full-time industry field placement.

From covering breaking news to exploring human interest stories, journalists report events, interview the newsmakers, and examine the issues of our times. Journalism is an exciting and fast paced career focused on interesting people, places and stories.

In this program you will:

* Apply your skills in a newsroom writing for a community newspaper and an online publication. This experience will make you versatile, prepared and experienced for the workplace as soon as you graduate.
* Cover a variety of topics while developing the critical foundation skills you’ll need for a career as a reporter, editor or broadcaster and beyond.
* Develop new multi-platform and online skills for the evolving world of news reporting.

Admission Requirements

Centennial College expects students applying for admission to certificate or diploma programs to present at minimum an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent or be 19 years of age or older. Possession of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.

Academic Requirements

* Compulsory English 12C or U or skills assessment, or equivalent

Non-academic Requirements

A program admission session where applicants will:

* Complete an editing test
* Complete a current affairs questionnaire
* Write a short essay (topic provided)
* English will be considered in the admissions process

Field Placement Requirements

* Students are responsible for obtaining their own field placement
